And watch the world spinning gently out of time

That little grill might look tiny but you sure can fit quite a few burgers and brats on it. I found it fitting to invite my parents over for the first lighting since they got me the grill.. Burgers, Brats, homemade mac + cheese, baked beans and a beer is my kind of dinner. Of course I had a song pop in my head…

I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today, life is good today

The temperature might be incongruous to the lyric…but that’s about how I felt. It’s been a great weekend…I really couldn’t have asked for anything more.

I’m already looking up recipes for grilled salmon tomorrow (and no I’m not ashamed to look up grilling tips on google) and I’ve made plans to have friends over later in the week to sample my experiments.

Life is good today

Today can not get any better…and it’s not even noon! I passed my technician exam and am now a licensed amateur radio operator–or rather I will be just as soon as the FCC assigns me a call sign which should be sometime next week…

That’s the “thing” I alluded to earlier… My friend called me yesterday evening to inform me that there was a testing session here in Owensboro. I didn’t want to mention it partly because I’m Irish and superstitious but mostly because I didn’t think I was prepared. Turned out I rocked it! Now I can safely scratch one item off the list. But, I think buying my first rig has surpassed a handgun on the list of expensive items that I want right now…I’m thankful to have a friend who already has his General license and his own rig–he can help guide me through the process.

The next item off the list: Is psuedo re-taking my A+ cert for 6 credit hours. I currently have a lifetime cert…if I retake it I have to renew it every three years…if I take the school practice test…it counts for my hours and I keep my lifetime cert. End date: First day back from spring break.

Also, Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me was playing while I was getting my haircut…strangely enough, that might have made my day just as much as getting my license..Seriously though: WWDTM, The Thistle and Shamrock and Barren River Breakdown are a necessary component for every Saturday.

I’m thankful to God for the blessings in my life lately. Nothing has fallen in my lap…I’ve certainly worked for it and suffered through some stuff. But, it’s God that’s given me the courage and conviction to keep moving forward.

Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

Apparently, facebook knows what music you’ll be listening to next time you get in a relationship or get dumped. Or rather, thanks to some data analysis they’ve complied a top list of tracks…and there isn’t a song on there, save for maybe Rolling In The Deep, that I would ever listen to. I’d like to see the frequency of songs played by individuals who enter/exit multiple relationships over a period of time…because, pop culture notwithstanding…a relationship is a unique entity and the music associated with it would reflect as such…and John Cusack’s character in High Fidelity said it best:

The making of a great compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you got to take it up a notch, but you don’t wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it off a notch. There are a lot of rules.

Grillin time!

My parents brought me over a little housewarming present…and it’s the perfect size for my front porch. Sitting out in the rocking chair, doing a little bbq… wearing long-johns and gloves ;)

I do not care if it’s the middle of February and it’s snowing outside. There will be grilling sometime this week!

Found a skill to add to the list: I will learn about IC, electronics and electricity in general. I’ve read the same thing so many times it’s finally being absorbed.

…and learn to read freaking electronic schematics. So many symbols…

Actually have something I’m working on now…more to come.

25 down
.98 up

Much better… Although, I don’t understand why TWC seems to be the only carrier not increasing their upload speeds… comcast in evansville is something like 50 down/5 up

Is Oceania ever going to be released? It’s been pushed back…5 months now?

“Untitled” — their original “farewell” song… very very Siamese Dream sounding. Listening to this song always gives me a little extra spring in my step.

hold the truth if you want it
if you don’t, i won’t flaunt it
to feel love, to be in love
all around

when you’re young you can promise
anything that you wanted
to be in love, to feel love all around

turn me on, let me speak
from my heart, i receive
plain happiness, just happiness
you and me

to feel love, to be in love
all around

MAK

How do MAK activations work? Or rather, how do you “deauthorize” an activation if you are no longer using the computer/have to reinstall? From playing around in VMs and just generally messing around I’ve used up most of my activations but only have 3 machines active.

I wonder if you call it in and do an activation over the phone or if they deauthorize the entire key? I know they can rearm it… but I’m sure that has a limit. It’d be nice to find out where exactly I stand…

I dislike Mitch McConnell with the fury of one thousand burning suns… The Conservative Political Action Conference and my favorite news site, The Huffington Post is streaming it here. I thought some of this had to be satire….and I was looking for the gag. Quotes like:

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said Thursday that Democrats are taking away liberty and freedom with overreaching policies, like pushing for fewer calories in food marketed toward children and energy-efficient shower heads, toilets and lightbulbs.

King referred to the House office building janitors during Pelosi’s time as speaker as her “Stasi troops” — referring to oppressive secret police in East Germany until 1990 — saying they unscrewed the lightbulbs in his office to replace them with energy-efficient “curly-Q” bulbs.

Being compared to the Stasi for mandating energy efficient light bulbs, limits on shower heads and toliets… trying to conserve what diminishing resources we have as the world population skyrockets … and that’s the same as torture, execution of political dissidents and support of countless terrorist organizations.

Who the hell are these people?
