I guess I got my swagger back

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

When I worked at Computers Plus I always looked forward to doing on-sites…specifically the ones that were out of town. Back then it was a great way to break up the monotony.  After all, doing the exact same work day in and day out became mindnumbing…

Well, my new job–doesn’t have a routine. There is no grind. Going different places, doing different things…all without a set schedule. Today took me to Henderson. Funny enough, one of the businesses was only a few blocks away from the one I worked at when I was w/ CP.  The best part? After the job was over…I was on my own time. Which meant my two favorite things: Coffee and driving around aimlessly!

Things are looking up!

EDIT: My favorite show of the moment? Entourage. I swore to never watch it for fear it was just another vapid fantasy. That was until I caught an episode at a buddys house…It’s hilarious! Whoever does the music has excellent taste as well: The Eels, Interpol, Del tha funkee homosapian, De La Soul, G Love…I could go on.

Ah, Finally

Alright, during downtime in between class, studying and work I’ve managed to get everything organized the way I want. My new computer is fully up and running–I didn’t intend on buying a new one except my old one was literally about ready to have a meltdown. It was a trooper though, 8 years. fredward.org is actually on professional hosting and my old box has been shut down…reverted to a Linksys router. I just didn’t have the time to manage a server and looking through the server logs daily was starting to be a chore.
I simply just want everything to work, when I want it to. That’s not so unreasonable right? ;)

One more week until my well deserved vacation down in Gatlinburg. People have been looking at me like I’m crazy when I mention I’m going alone but what’s the big deal? A well furnished vacation cabin is exactly what I need…Peace, quiet, a fireplace and a few books. Oh, and yeah, I also have to write a 15 page paper…but besides that…

Sector Unrecoverable. Sector Unrecoverable.

Yeah. That’s not a message one wants to find…especially when it’s a important hard drive. I ran a data recovery tool overnight….It had analyzed less than half the drive and reported it (correctly) shot. Lesson learned; No matter if it’s going to take a while, no matter if you have to sacrifice one of your drives. BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP.

In addition to that, I accidentally broke my wordpress installation while playing around with some of the settings and permissions. Oops. But, I believe that everything is back up and running.

‘m going out bowling with a few of my co-workers today…These guys complain if they ever bowl below 200. I’m having a good game if I beat 150 ;) Oh well, if all else fails I’m pretty sure they still have Galaga there!

Pretty stoked that my personal cell contract is, finally, up so I can switch it to my employee plan. Looking forward to getting DVR in both my living room and bedroom…I also have this feeling I might get the sports package. I’ve found myself trying to (somewhat) keep up since its all some of my co-workers talk about.

Other than that…time for class.

ps. I’m looking for new music… Any suggestions?

I can safely say today was a productive day. Went out browsing for a couple of items for my apartment and it turns out Kirkland’s was having an incredible sale on portraits / paintings…kinda loaded up the car for stuff to put on my walls.. lol Of all of them, I think my favorite is this little 2×2 metal cast with a raised coffee cup simply reading “java” on the bottom. Perfect for a coffee junkie like myself ;)  Besides that, just got some assorted items that I need. It’s funny how little things like wall hangings can enhance a room.

and while (most) people are going to be off having bbqs and enjoying their 3 day weekend..I have to work 8:30-4:30. Oh well, Even though I’d rather be off I do enjoy working there so *shrugs* I really just want to be off so I can get back to playing MGS4. That game rocks!

There were a few events that were slightly odd… a shift that I really can’t put my finger on, but, my horoscope from dailyom kind of helped

“Trying not to control things but instead to simply let them take their course brings more tranquility into our lives. Our ability to release into whatever might occur may not be something that comes to us easily – even when we are the most relaxed, negative and worried thoughts may crop up. Once we know this however, we can easily come back to our state of peacefulness by using simple affirmations or prompts to gently help our minds release any thoughts that we are holding onto which also hold us back. By letting yourself go wherever life takes you, you will find tranquility in the quiet acceptance of the way things are today.”

Since I’ve gotten my crackberry, I’ve gotten quite the addiction and it’s made me increase how I’m connected to the world. So, I wound up getting a s/n just for the bb

Also, dmac helped me out with my sendmail problem so I’m getting daily security alerts from both router and file server sent directly to me. Thanks!

April Fool’s Day

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Just a reminder not to believe anything that you read on the internet for the next day, well, you shouldn’t believe much you read on the internet anyway =P

Google is getting an early start with “Custom Time being listed as an updated feature.

“Just click “Set custom time” from the Compose view. Any email you send to the past appears in the proper chronological order in your recipient’s inbox. You can opt for it to show up read or unread by selecting the appropriate option.”

Google has a history of some clever April Fools Jokes which can be found here

Readers of Digg, Slashdot, The Register or especially Fark…might want to just stay off the internet. There’s bound to be the inevitable “Blah Blah Blah—NO HOAX!!!” comments

Feel free to comment if you come across any particularly good ones.
