I guess I got my swagger back

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

When I worked at Computers Plus I always looked forward to doing on-sites…specifically the ones that were out of town. Back then it was a great way to break up the monotony.  After all, doing the exact same work day in and day out became mindnumbing…

Well, my new job–doesn’t have a routine. There is no grind. Going different places, doing different things…all without a set schedule. Today took me to Henderson. Funny enough, one of the businesses was only a few blocks away from the one I worked at when I was w/ CP.  The best part? After the job was over…I was on my own time. Which meant my two favorite things: Coffee and driving around aimlessly!

Things are looking up!

EDIT: My favorite show of the moment? Entourage. I swore to never watch it for fear it was just another vapid fantasy. That was until I caught an episode at a buddys house…It’s hilarious! Whoever does the music has excellent taste as well: The Eels, Interpol, Del tha funkee homosapian, De La Soul, G Love…I could go on.

If one was to read through this blog and assign categories to each entry: the top category would be coffee, followed by driving with fall coming up a close third.  I’m truly addicted to coffee. It’s the smell, the taste, the warmth…It’s not the caffeine (so much) for after my morning cup(s) I tend to switch over to decaf. It’s the little pleasures that help shape a day. Focusing on one or two small things that make you happy can alter your perspective completely.

That being said…a couple of people have alleged that I have a cynical disposition towards people and I can be somewhat harsh. I created a facebook status that dealt with that matter fairly efficiently I like to think:

“I don’t hate everyone. I don’t consider myself to be cynical. However, I do value my time and choose not to associate with those that I feel waste it. The fact that number is high doesn’t mean anything.”

I believe people are too focused with being polite in the same way that people have gotten more cowardly and self-absorbed. On the opposite end of the spectrum you have the line between being honest and cruel. After having experienced both it would be pleasant to find balance. I’m tired of the ignorance and apathy that are prevalent in society these days. Yes, I’m making a generalization, I realize not all people are this way etc.

I think I’m tired of the whimsical, lackadaisical attitudes that exist from people the most. Have a spine, develop some character. I want to know where I stand with people and where people stand in and of themselves. Tired of people twisting and manipulating situations simply to suit their own devices.

…and now that I’ve gotten that verbose rant out of my system. I do believe I shall relax…maybe hit up Barns & Noble and find myself a book to settle down with.

Books… check

Coffee…check
Okay, good to go. If I had to pick a way to end out the summer last weekend definitely would have been it. Crowd Control’s first party, “Electro Boogaloo” was Friday night in Evansville…It was a complete blast. The DJs sets were completely on point, the energy and atmosphere was hype and not to mention getting to hear Curtis B… That was just FUN. After the party I had a chance to get closer to some of the group and kick back and relax.Pics will probably be posted soon. Can’t wait for the next one!

It’s my second day and words can’t explain how enthralled I am. It’s strange. So familiar yet still new…Once again, I’m a regular college kid, in a college town living a college lifestyle. So many burdens have fallen away and this opportunity is incredible. Bits and pieces definitely remind me of UK though (the good parts) Java City has replaced the mezzo in between classes. A secluded area behind the library has replaced the same behind the Office Tower. I might even be getting another Research Assistant position in the Political Science department!

Once again sitting in a computer lab during that lovely break in between classes…I’m loving both the campus and the people. I can’t wait to see where this takes me.

To say that was exactly what I needed is an understatement. It’s interesting how “doing nothing” while not in ones hometown is perfectly okay….Anyway, got down to Murray around 5:30, leaving me with some time to waste before sunrise. Quick trip to Huddle House (I hate that place to peaces but seriously, where else can you get coffee that early?) and it was down backroads until I found this nice little niche to watch the sun come up.

I posted earlier about wanting a better digital camera and after viewing the pictures I took down there it made me want one that much more. Well, the early morning shots all sucked…I went down by the lake and took some better ones? I think… I’ll put ‘em up soon

Hung out there for a while, stopped at the Frap House for a quick fill up and it was off to 3rd floor lobby and pretty much watch every person I know left in Murray come by. I had forgotten how much Brant cracked me up. Anyway,  I was heading out for lunch when I caught a guy writing me a parking ticket. Let’s just say carrying a backpack and wearing an MSU hat isn’t the best way to convince public safety you’re not a student…

The rest of the day was pretty much spent lounging around and getting caught up with everyone. A couple of my friends were kind enough to offer their couch for the night but, as they were all leaving at 6am for choir tour I decided a hotel would work a little better. The new hampton they had seemed pretty nice at first…until I hung my towel on the rack and it fell off. Oops.

The Wind Ensemble concert at Lovett was amazing… That’s pretty much all I know to say about that one.

*shrugs* That’s about it. Woke up the next morning and had to go back through LBL to actually walk some trails.

I miss it. I don’t want to let another year go by before I head down there..

All in all it’s been a fun vacation :)

flights of fancy

So.. I had some pretty solid plans for fall break and my friends bailed. Planned something else and my friend got called into work.

I was almost resigned (in?)to doing nothing, except, I got a random urge to go see the sunrise over the lake. It was 2am and I was still up…might as well stay up! I’m down here at the royce getting a nighttime breakfast and fuel for the road.

Ah.. A fall night and a full moon… Add some coffee and good music and its a perfect time to hit the road!

I figure come midday ill be wanting to crash. Probably going to hit a hotel (unless one of my murray friends wants to put me up for the day.. Hint hint) :)

So, ill probably be up all day tues and most of wed.

I thought some daisies might cheer you up…

Tonight was absolutey beautiful and I’m feeling more energized every single day… Oh, random. Nine Inch Nails is doing another Halloween show in Nashville but, I’m already using some of my vacation days for a fall break trip. mm. That is something I’m excited about. I actually have concrete plans this year and in true Irish fashion I’m not talking about it for fear of jinxing it!

If all goes well, hopefully I’ll have plenty of pictures. Does anyone know much about digital photography? It’s something I’ve been interested in learning more about but am not quite sure how to get started. If anyone knows of some (decent) basic equipment to get started I’d appreciate it.

Found myself enjoying a half-day off as a result of the fierce winds of Sunday. All of OCC was without power (so was my apartment for a little while) Just relaxed on the couch on and popped in Felon. It was a pretty decent movie..slightly modern Shawshank Redemption if you ask me though.

Work is still going well and classes, eh. they’re going well but I think I’m going to take a lighter load come summer. Taking full-time+ and working full-time year around isn’t very fun…looking forward to seeing the end result.

Speaking of, January comes closer every day…still trying to figure out what I’m going to do.

Things I’m excited about

  • Just in case there’s not enough people talking about it… the Dark Knight was an awesome movie. Heath Ledger did an incredible job. Also, there was a really good preview for some movie in September that I can’t seem to recall =P
  • Smashing Pumpkins, August 12th in Louisville!!!
  • Break in classes

Oh, I thought of another addition to my “weekend off” list. How about a weekend in Cumberland Gap? It’s still early enough to make reserversations for some of the guided tours. I definitely wouldn’t mind taking a tour of gap cave.

At least it’s fairly cool in the morning. I want my percolated coffee! =P I don’t know if doing this alone is a good idea, but, I want a couple of days away from it all
