We’re going where the wind is blowing…

Looking out my window this morning I was reminded of Weeds. Or, more accurately the theme song.. There is development going on behind my apartment complex. 15 identical duplexes are going up and it’s annoyed me to no end…At first I thought it was simply because it took over the blank space I used to watch the sunset. That’s part of it…But then I realized it’s the conformity of it all. Go down the street–Find your nearest suburb. Look at all the identical McMansions growing up. Look at all of the duplexes. The idea of “neighborhoods” have pretty much faded…There’s not enough money in it. Here’s where Weeds comes in.. The theme song is

“And the people in the houses
All go to the university,
And they all get put in boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
And there’s doctors and there’s lawyers
And business executives,
And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.

There’s a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.”

It just bothers me the level of conformity today. I know I’m guilty of it in some ways. There is comfort in conformity…but it’s possible to have stability to fit into that little mold. So yeah, those little things that might be a little risque? Go for it. Found something that gives you that spark? Grab onto it. Have a secret? Keep it. It can be the little acts of individualism and uniqueness that provides a little extra enjoyment out of life.

And now, I’m going to go fill up my gas tank, get my books for school and face the day. I’m not saying be a complete nonconformist.. Normalcy is essential to operation in society. I’m just saying try to do one unique thing daily.. It’s important.
