  • increased grants for post-secondary education
  • LGBT rights
  • Women’s rights
  • the rights of the individual
  • immigration reform
  • progressive taxation and fair trade

The Dry Stuff

I’m a member of KY-223 of the Civil Air Patrol which is the civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. I’m currently in training to be the squadron Information Technology Officer and Communications Officer.

One of my biggest interests is military history–specifically naval history from  the Cold War to present. Submarines, NAS, ICBMs, SLBMs, Carriers and naval aircraft fascinate me and there are an endless list of museums I’d love to visit. I think I read a bit too much Tom Clancy growing up.

My secret goal in life is to become a wilderness survival expert. I would love to have the knowledge to survive alone in different climates. This would also include a sustainable off-grid lifestyle. I’m a huge techie but deep down I really just want to live in a cabin, grow some crops, fish and hunt.

The Geek Stuff

I’m a bit, okay, a lot of a computer geek…but I like to consider myself one of those well rounded ones.

I was recently elected chairman of the Owensboro student chapter of the Association For Computing Machinery

I’m a licensed amateur radio operator, call sign KK4GYD and look forward to getting my first transceiver and getting on the air.

After going to five colleges and having three different majors… I decided to start over from scratch. I’m at Owensboro Community College and will finish up my AA/Humanities and AAS/Information Technology in May. From there, who knows? Probably online through Murray State University.

Random

I’m a coffee addict but it doesn’t mean I’m picky…I like to hit up ritzy coffee shops when I get the chance but I also love going down to my favorite diner and sipping on a cup all night for $1.00 Sadly, my favorite diner (The Royce,) is no longer with us. It was my first job and I had been going down there since I was 13. That’s the second diner to close down and turn into a Mexican restaurant–the other being the Log Cabin in Murray.

Empire Records, released in 1995, is my comfort movie. I’ve seen it countless times and can quote it from beginning to end…probably without even watching it.

Attention Rex Manning fans, to your left you will notice a shoplifter being chased by night manager, Lucas. This young man will be caught, deep fried in a vat of hot oil and served to our first hundred customers. Just another tasty treat from the gang at Empire Records.

I’ve developed a cult following for My First Earthquake. They’re an indie rock/electro pop band out of San Francisco that is extremely catchy.

My favorite quote is:

“Hope is both the earliest and the most indispensable virtue inherent in the state of being alive. If life is to be sustained hope must remain, even where confidence is wounded, trust impaired.”
— Erik Erikson

My all time favorite band is The Smashing Pumpkins. I’ve seen them three times now with the last being their 20th anniversary show in Cleveland. I had front row center tickets, w/ a VIP pass where I got to meet Billy and Jimmy.
