I’ve made the mistake of staying up late watching Ray Mears and Les Stroud videos again…needless to say it brought back my desire to learn wilderness survival…or at least go camping

It’s looking like come fall I’m going to be able to afford to outfit myself with gear and I’m not sure where to begin. Eventually, the goal is to go from camping to backpacking. Starting with day hikes and working my way up to 1-3 days. I would like whatever gear I purchase to be as flexible which is why I’m looking into getting a MOLLE II pack w/ sleeper system. I like the flexibility of changing out bags and being able to strap on virtually anything.

Any gear I do purchase from tents on down should be as lightweight as possible for multi-use purposes. Especially any mess kit items… I’d like to get used to cooking the same food at the base camp that I would on an overnight. Fixing pemmican ahead of time and finding a range of filling lightweight meals.
