Okay, last night I had another apocolypse dream…Only this one was kinda cool a la fallout3 without the actual nuclear holocaust…I can’t remember exactly what was causing the end of the world. Only, my friends and I were staying in this ritzy five star hotel when the power grid was completely destroyed. Operating on emergency power we sat out to grab as much food and supplies as possible–for some reason, most of the guests and already evacuated.
My group had managed to secure the top floor by fencing in the elevator doors (in case someone wanted to climb) and by knocking out all stairs and replacing them with ladders and pulleys w/ a basket to bring up supplies. A sound powered telephone was used to alert the guard (Okay, wtf did I get a sound powered phone?) One of the first restaurants we came across inside the restaurant also doubled as a candy store–chocolate covered pretzels, banana chips, all kinds of freeze dried goodness and what else? *ding* a food dehydrator! Figured we can hook that up to a car battery and help preserve some of the food before everything spoiled.
We had setup a makeshift base. Raiding the supply rooms, the suites and all the restaurants for whatever was available. The bad news was more and more of those outside were coming to the hotel looking for food. Realizing that we couldn’t turn everyone away–nor can we defend against the truly motivated, we decided to leave and look for something that was a bit easier to defend. Opening up the elevator shaft we rigged a basket to the line and lowered down all of our suppliers in the dead of night.
…which at that time it went from a typical city / suburban town into something out of Arabian Nights involving Camels, desert, and a caravan…
Only to arrive at another suburban cul-de-sac which was eventually secured a la I am Legend with pull-down metal shutters on all points of ingress. It was a two story house plus a basement that served our purpose quite well. Breaking down the wall in the basement a cellar was dug out to aid in storage
then I woke up.
