UPDATE: According to WPSD there are no cars in the water and no injuries reported

Fast Food Nation
Taco Bell is coming out with “first meal” or what the rest of us simply like to call breakfast…There are two reasons to go to Taco Bell.
- The bars just let out and you have no money

I’m not a fan of any fast food breakfast…except for the McGriddle–seriously,that’s a tasty sandwich.
So, I’ve been off the patch for about a week and cravings/desires to smoke are at an absolute zero…
Guess I really am a non-smoker now.

Believe it or not, it’s been a while since I’ve been up in the middle of the night drinking coffee for no reason. Somehow I got carried away in my organizational frenzy this evening…This time it was organizing, clearing up and securing my electronic files. Changing passwords, archiving backups…Generally walking the tightrope of diligent behavior and you know, just being weird.
If you think that’s weird…
I’ve had a passing interest in “prepping” for a while…but nothing extreme. Keeping some stuff in the car in case I break down. Same thing w/ putting a kit together for the house…never know if you’ll lose power or a water main will break.
Well, someone posted this link: Your Emergency Computer Kit. This was a complete geeky prepper…I’m not talking about throwing a backup dvd of important files in your BOB. He gets into the importance of backups, integrity checking and complete drive encryption in case you have to leave it behind.
It’s interesting to see the electronic world and survivalist worlds intersect… After all, geeks want security and privacy from Big Brother–and if the protests of PIPA and SOPA were any indicator: geeks are against an overreaching government. You can see where some of that ideology is shared w/ the survivalist.
So, now you see people talking about their CCW and RFID blocking wallet in the same conversation.
Anyway, I got a kick out of it.
I’ve tempered…
I think I was more frustrated that some of the proposals were TOO good….and this Congress doesn’t have a track record of pleasing the president.
The American Jobs Act introduced last September was completely gutted and destroyed…so why does anyone think these broad reaching proposals (That need to be enacted) will?
Our infrastructure is collapsing
Proposals were made to modify the tax code, to end certain tax breaks/loopholes and to provide an incentive for businesses to start investing in the US…
Eh, it’s an election year. Too bad our do nothing Congress will never pass any of these much needed proposals to get America back on its feet.
State of the Union
Does the State of the Union address serve a purpose aside from being a stump speech? Before the SOTU there were ”prebuttals” and Mitch Daniels had the GOP response to the SOTU ready.
Article II Section 3
He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses…
Again, this is supposed to the the State of the Union address…and it’s more polarized than I would have imagined…I liked President Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress last September more than this! I almost think the SOTU shouldn’t be broadcast
Obama has shifted away from making concrete proposals after republican obstructionism has made him seem like a man who breaks his promises…so it’s rhetoric. We need better job training, the jobs are out there you just need training!
Our economy is strengthening! Invest in America! Clean Energy!

I’m not disagreeing w/ anything he said….and I’m certainly not agreeing w/ Mitch Daniels…but I AM saying that I’ve lost faith in the ability of our government to properly govern. I’ll try and put together a more coherent response later… I’m simply frustrated

I’ve been putting off taking my amateur radio license exam because there was a class being taught at the Emergency Operations Center…I was hoping to use this as an opportunity to get to know future hams and get some in-depth knowledge behind some of the mechanics like setting up your own tower. Instead, it turned about to be a group of about 15 people in their 50s+ so I’m going to test February 18th.
I’ve also decided not to do drama… the time commitment was a little too much for everything else that I’m doing…which is a real shame because I was really looking forward to meeting some new people. There are one or two other groups I’m looking at… We’ll see.
And oh, I’m not going back

I’m just ready to meet new people…I’ve removed all the ones who brought negativity in my life…which is great but also makes for a lot of boredom. Still, I’d rather do things by myself than with those who don’t mean me well….
What it really boils down to…is I’m at the point in my life where I’m ready for a committed relationship. All of my best friends are married w/ kids…and no matter how close we are their family takes precedence, as it should be. It’s just the opportunity to meet people is severely reduced when most of their friends are also married.
Once upon a time I spent way too much time explaining how different I was…but, now I am living the changes I always wanted to happen. I’m comfortable in my own skin -and that should be a prerequisite for anything.
Alright, I’m done with this diatribe.
