school/work

Published by fredward under Uncategorized

Whew, Summer sessions are going quite fast. My first Biology test is tomorrow and I’m slightly nervous. Life Science has never really been my forte… Well, chemistry is fun but biology is something else. It requires a completely different method of thinking than I’m used to…which isn’t a bad thing. It never hurt to learn how to approach things from a different angle :)

Anyway, I’m taking a break from studying, sipping down some coffee and trying my damnedest to avoid East of Eden. I’ve become completely enthralled with that book!

I’m liking my US History class but it’s overly simplistic. It’s the same story told 50 million times over. If we’re going to talk about North America I’d really like to hear it told from another perspective…perhaps the Native American tribes migration into these lands, their growth to the eventual destruction of their way of life from the Europeans…now THAT would be a fun class.

Work was work.. It was a tad hectic today, we didn’t finish up helping customers until 30 minutes after close and didn’t leave until about another 30. It’s amazing the types of people I’ve came in contact with working for AT&T…I thought I saw it all at Computers Plus but I’ve learned a valuable lesson. Not everyone needs/has a computer. EVERYONE has a cell phone. A former customer of mine at CompPlus who used to bring us food saw me a week ago at AT&T and brought in homemade cookies :) Incredibly Incredibly amazing for someone to do. Stuff like that always makes one feel good.

Ok Ok. I’ve wasted enough time. Back to the books

Since I have the habit of saying too much anyway…

I woke up this morning and came to a conclusion.

The past is dead and I’m doing the exact opposite of what I said I would… And I’m not proud of that but…

There’s nothing I can do about that. My apologies won’t matter.

Today is a reawakening.

Embrace what the future will bring

The Economist is almost the de facto way I keep up with current global events–with good reason. It is constantly publishing articles that other magazines/newspapers won’t go in depth about. Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan… The don’t publish celebrity filler like you see on CNN.com or some of the other news outlets.

That being said…The Economist is depressing! The avg daily wage in Goru Gutu of Eastern Ethiopia is 80 cents USD a day. Riots around the world, food shortages, human rights violations, slavery… It’s easy to see why the larger news outlets don’t carry much of this information. Who wants to hear it? It fills one with a sense of guilt.

Big Oil, global warming, waste waste waste

What am I doing?

Adding to it.

Renew…revive…It’s alright honey, it’s alright yeah!

It’s kind of funny. It appears that’s all I needed was just some way to spend my time, to keep me stimulated in some manner. It’s not road trips, coffee and conversation but it keeps me occupied and delivers a sense of accomplishment which is always rewarding.

Anyway, at the suggestion of a friend I’ve added a couple of books to my book reading list:

- V by Thomas Pynchon (He’s the one who wrote Crying of Lot 49 I really liked)
- East of Eden by Steinbeck (not sure how excited I am…but it came highly recommended)
- Eva Luna by Isabel Allende (love love love Allende..anxious to read more)

Break…
ahhh some customers seriously crack me up
and resume

and I’ve read Then We Came to the End by Joshua Ferris…it’s new, came out last year..but. *shrugs* it’s funny and tech related so.. we’ll see

hey kids rock and roll

It seems I got away from blogging for  a bit.. Either nothing was going on or the post was just way to serious and I scrapped it.

Classes started today and if first impressions hold it doesn’t look like it will be bad. One professor I’ve had before and the other one seems cool enough. I’m also taking one online class where you’re given your assignments and have to complete them in tiers. It should be easy but it’ll take some effort not to slack.

This evening was surprisingly fun, went to Henderson to see my friend Sarah and check out the Handy Blues Festival…Watching the sunset on the river followed by sipping a margarita listening some some solid blues. That’s what I call a delightful evening!

Ah, old routines. I’ve had my break and now it’s time to get back…and at just the right time also…

waking up early in the morning, drinking my coffee and reading the paper…it’d only be better if the air had that fall crispness but hey, one can’t have everything ;)

Off to class and then work

This is the last song…

I really don’t wanna look stupid when I’m sleeping
I never really liked sunny day
The black wings just reach out to me over a distance…
And I can feel the wind from the wings
I see the clouds, I feel the ocean with my feet, and I’m home again
It requires an ability to judge distance
The airplane flies high…turns left, looks right

So, I’m thinking about getting a rack, putting it in my closet and getting 2 1u blades to replace these PC servers that I have… A buddy of mine is selling two of them for 40 bucks a piece… RAID SCSI, 512MB ram, Dual-proc P3s for 40 bucks each..

After eating horribly for the past week I’ve gotten back on my health food kick…so far so good. Although, I realized I can’t cut out coffee entirely as I really don’t feel like suffering massive caffeine headaches…and I like coffee =P

Adore turned 10 yesterday and I’m hopeful that SP will announce their fall dates soon…If it’s late enough I’ll be able to used my paid vacation days to go down there…Sick days? Paid vacation? Yeah…it’s nice having a real job.

Midway

Published by fredward under Uncategorized

It’s June…midpoint of the year. 2008 is about half over. Are you where you want to be? I’m mostly there. Summer session starts up next week and I’m surprisingly looking forward to that…I’ve been bored lately and i’m looking forward to getting back and getting busy!

Not to mention I’m ready to January to hurry up so I can transfer to KWC!

work is still going good.. Debating about getting Dish but figure I’ve gone so long without TV why does it really matter?

Anyway.. yeah. I don’t have much to comment on…things are boring.
